Glowforge, a Seattle-based manufacturer of “3D laser printers,” has launched Magic Canvas, a system similar to DALL-E that generates images ready for laser cutting and engraving on surfaces ranging from wood to food. This feature is now available as part of the Glowforge Premium software package.

Creating images is a simple process where users enter their idea or keywords into the Glowforge app and choose an art style. This mirrors the process of similar text-to-image AI systems that have gained popularity in recent times. Users can then use the generated image with one of Glowforge's systems to laser cut or engrave the design.

The Magic Canvas edition adds some value to the aforementioned Glowforge Premium, which is an expensive $50/month subscription. However, it remains to be seen if this justifies the cost of Glowforge's expensive hardware, especially considering more affordable options such as the OMTec Polar that are already on the market.

You can test the image generator yourself on the Magic Canvas product page with some preset hints or get more details from community posts Glowforge in the February update.
