fire resistant filament Studia3D Filament PET-G V0 - a revolution among plastics

First on the market: the world's only Nonflammable PET-G plastic, specially developed by our 3D printing studio. Studia3D Filament PET-G V0 does not burn and does not emit hazardous combustion products. It is safe even in direct contact with fire. Due to its exceptional properties, the material has received a fire safety certificate and is approved for use in children's and medical institutions.

History of the development of innovative plastics Studia3D Filament PET-G V0

Team Studia3D has been manufacturing products on 3d printers since 2014. Among the main areas are large-scale printing and the creation of designer art objects. The process consists in the manufacture of segments of a large product, which are then fastened and processed. In the process of working on one of the orders, at the time of assembly, a printed fragment caught fire on the site. The instability of the material led to the need to find an alternative.

There is already a non-flammable plastic on the market - ABS. Its use turned out to be impossible - the material shrinks strongly. With ABS plastic, it is difficult to match the product to the required dimensions. For tasks where precision is required, it is not suitable. Our team started developing a new material.

Nonflammable PET-G based plastic

The basis of innovative Studia3D Filament PET-G V0 is taken from PET-G. By introducing certain additives into the formula, we have managed to preserve the best properties of the starting material and to achieve non-combustibility and a low degree of shrinkage.

High level of fire safety

70% of people die in a fire due to smoke: reduced visibility, poisoning by combustion products. We needed not just a formula of non-flammable plastic without shrinkage, but a really safe material that can also be used indoors (in decor, decoration, when creating art objects, which is important for nightclubs, restaurants, cafes, children's and entertainment centers). This is how a fire retardant appeared in the formula - a substance that blocks the formation of carbon dioxide (CO2). At this stage, the material stopped emitting a smell, and when exposed to fire, it extinguished and did not allow the fire to spread.

A side effect of the fire retardant was the fragility of the finished product. It took 1,5 years to achieve the optimal combination to achieve high strength and non-flammability qualities.

Plastic from Studia3D possesses high resistance to fire that is confirmed with the certificate of fire safety.

No condensation when hanging products

Another task was to remove the formation of drops. When hanging products (art objects, decorative details), condensation may form. It was possible to get rid of this by changing the texture of the material: a sufficient level of viscosity made it possible to almost completely eliminate the formation of drops.

Incredibly smooth finished product texture

Rough, layered surfaces are common in FDM 3D printers. To achieve an acceptable finish, the product needs additional processing. Our innovative material has revolutionized the quality of printed parts.

Nonflammable plastic Studia3D Filament PET-G V0 has a phenomenally smooth finish even without treatment. Due to the characteristics of the material, no layers are visible on the surface. The finished product looks like it was created by casting. In the field of plastics, such quality was unattainable before the release of our development.

Absolute smoothness is noticeable in the comparative photographs of products made of PET-G and Studia3D Filament PET-G V0. If layering is clearly visible on the first, then the second is absolutely smooth. With this quality, you can do without finishing. This moment will save both time for the manufacture of the product and the budget.

Optical imitation of casting after processing

Nonflammable plastic Studia3D Filament PET-G V0 has another outstanding property - after processing in acetone vapor, the surface becomes visually similar to casting. Absolute smoothness without any hint of layers. This is a huge breakthrough in plastic 3D printing. Imitation of a cast product allows you to use Studia3D Filament PET-G V0 for large-sized works, art objects, sculptures and other elements where a smooth surface texture is needed. From Non-flammable material, you can create parts that are visually similar to metal, but have dozens of times less weight. This point is important when creating suspended structures.

Recommendations for working with the material Studia3D Filament PET-G V0

With all the advantages of Nonflammable plastic Studia3D Filament PET-G V0 is picky about 3D printing mode settings. If the recommendations are violated during the 3D printing process, the finished product may turn out to be fragile (not meet the declared material characteristics). For this reason, each package contains detailed instructions on how to set up a 3D printer.

Basic recommendations for setting up a 3D printer

  • Nozzle temperature 215 - 245 ° C
  • Table temperature 70 - 80 ° C
  • Blowing 20%
  • Minimum nozzle diameter 0,1 mm

Our team advises and helps to achieve the maximum quality of the finished product from Studia3D Filament PET-G V0. As part of the study of material properties, a large number of popular models of FDM 3D printers were tested. As a result, each has a detailed setup guide, which is also provided to filament buyers.

Unfortunately, testing the PET-G V0 on all existing FDM 3D printers is not possible. If your equipment is not on the list, we recommend making 2 - 3 test prints of small fragments from the material. This will allow you to adjust the printer settings for better results.

If you need information on the settings of 3D printing modes specifically for your 3D printer, you can take advantage of the advice of our specialists.
